All Aboard the Trump Crazy Train

Just in case you had any lingering doubts, let me put them to rest. On January 20, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as president and vice president respectively. Nothing is going to prevent that from happening. The voters have spoken, the courts have spoken, the electoral college has spoken, and on January 6, a few Republican whackadoodles notwithstanding, Congress will put the final nail in Trump's political coffin.

Of course that didn't stop der Führer from holding a meeting in the Oval Office last week in which he floated the idea of declaring martial law in order to seize voting machines and appointing Sidney Powell as special counsel to investigate alleged voter fraud. The former will never happen; the Pentagon would never stand for it. General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has publicly stated that the military will "play no role" in the election. I believe him. As far as the latter goes, most legal experts believe Trump lacks the authority to appoint his own special counsel. And even if he could appoint Powell, what would she find? If her track record in court is any indication, absolutely nothing. This dog ain't huntin' no matter how many rabbits they throw in front of it.

Still, it was disturbing to say the least to discover that a sitting president would even consider using such drastic measures to upend a free and fair election that he clearly lost, and we should not dismiss it out of hand. The next thirty days will be the most trying in our nation's history as Trump uses every means at his disposal to attempt to hold on to power. The fear is not that he might succeed; he won't. The fear is that his frantic ravings could lead to bloodshed.

Like you, I was deeply relieved that we didn't see any violence last Monday when the electors met to cast their votes for Biden and Harris. Suffice to say, my heart was in my mouth the whole day. Once Congress officially counts those votes on January 6, Trump will have only two weeks to go before he becomes a private citizen. He knows full well what that means, as do his attorneys, who I'm sure have informed him of his criminal liability.

You didn't think Trump was pulling this shit just because he lost the White House to "sleepy" Joe Biden, did you? I know he's a world-class narcissist but that's not the reason. The prospect of spending the bulk of the rest of his miserable life behind bars is what's driving this crazy train right now. As I wrote in an earlier piece, the likely reason we haven't seen Jay Sekulow of late is because he's been preoccupied devising a legal strategy to thwart the efforts of Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom would like nothing better than to make Trump a full-time resident of a certain correctional facility in Ossining. Hey, I hear there's a great view of the Hudson from the yard.

Look, the closer Trump gets to civilian life, the more desperate he will become. Screw the kitchen sink, he'll throw the whole damn kitchen to stop the inevitable from happening. Yes, he will fail, but in so doing, he will rip this country apart like no president has ever done before.

What else would a world-class narcissist do?
