The Calm Before the Shitstorm

Wanna know why I'm not overly optimistic that a government shutdown and debt-ceiling default will be averted? Check out the video below.

In case you were wondering, this town-hall meeting wasn't taking place in Texas or Florida or Alabama or even Arizona. This town-hall meeting was taking place in, wait for it...

MARYLAND.

Yep, you heard right. Good old Maryland, home of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and, literally, within shouting distance of our nation's Capital. This mob actually thinks that until now the GOP has been too soft on the President and they're demanding that their elected officials stop being "nice guys" and "boy scouts."

That's right. The problem with Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and even the boy wonder himself, Paul Ryan, is that they're just too damn nice and easy going.

From Benghazi to the IRS to the NSA to Obamacare to the Boogeyman (okay, I made that last one up), the mood was decidedly confrontational AND paranoid. I mean, next to this lot, the "9/11 was an inside job " conspiracy nuts seem perfectly lucid.

That's why I'm very concerned about this fall and why I'm pretty much resigning myself to the fact that these people, this time, will actually pull the trigger they merely cocked in 2011.

They are that stupid and that dangerous.

Winston Churchill was right when he said,“The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.”

Actually, these days, five minutes is being generous.
